RESTORATIVE UNIT

Overview

   

Restorative Dentistry is the dental specialty that deals with diagnosis and management of diseases of teeth and their supporting structures and rehabilitation of the dentition to functional and aesthetic requirements of the individual. The replacement of missing teeth and supporting tissues by means of prostheses such as Dentures, Bridges and Implants are also integrated with it.

The Restorative Dentistry Unit at the Teaching Hospital Kandy provides a wide range of treatments starting from simple restorations, Root canal treatments (Endodontics), crowns, dental trauma management to different kind of prostheses such as dentures, obturators and dental bridges. We closely work with Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and Orthodontic units to provide comprehensive care for our patients. We also provide the dental care for those patients awaiting cardiac surgeries, transplant surgeries, Radiotherapy and other specialized medical treatments.

Academic Program

The Restorative Dentistry Unit at the Teaching Hospital Kandy is a training center for the PDHDP training program conducted by the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine, University of Colombo.

A) Our referral base

  • Dental Out Patient Department of Teaching Hospital, Kandy.
  • Surgical units, Cardiology Unit, Nephrology and other medical units of Teaching Hospital Kandy.
  • General, Base and Divisional hospitals with no Restorative Dentistry Units.
  • School Dental Clinics.
  • Adolescent Dental Clinics.

B) Our work schedule

  • New patients are registered and screened on every Tuesday and Friday from 8.00 am to 12 noon.
  • Treatments are delivered from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon and 2.00 pm to 4.00pm from Monday to Friday.
  • A special clinic for children is conducted every Saturday from 8.00 am to 12.00 noon.

Dental Laboratory

Overview

The Dental Laboratory at the Teaching Hospital, Kandy serves Orthodontic, Maxillofacial and Restorative Dentistry units by constructing Orthodontic appliances, full and partial dentures and other prosthetic appliances.
