About Teaching Hospital - Kandy
Teaching Hospital Kandy is the second largest tertiary care medical institution in Sri Lanka, established and administered under the purview of the Ministry of Health Care and Nutrition.
Teaching Hospital Kandy is providing specialized health care services mainly to the Central Province which consists of Kandy, Matale and Nuwara Eliya districts and to all other provinces except Western and Southern. People are coming from all other provinces (Northern, North Western, North Central, Sabaragamuwa, Eastern and Uva) to seek expert care from the Teaching Hospital Kandy, as there are no highly specialized units in some of these remote areas.
The hospital is responsible for delivering a comprehensive range of secondary and tertiary specialist care and medical rehabilitation in certain identified fields of Medicine. Since we are a Teaching Hospital, we teach the undergraduate medical students from Faculty of Medicine - University of Peradeniya. We are a training centre for the Intern Medical Officers and post graduate trainees attached to the Post Graduate Institute of Medicine in Colombo. The Kandy Nursing Training School is also attached to the Hospital and the practical training for them are also being provided by the Hospital.
We have facilities to carry out advanced Medical Investigations such as CT scanning, MRI Scanning, Interventional radiography, Coronary Angiography and Cerebral Angiography.
Major Surgeries including Renal Transplants, Brain Surgeries and Cardiac surgeries are being performed in routine basis.
To be the safest tertiary care hospital in Sri Lanka.
Our mission is to elevate the status of the hospital to a modern, leading health care facility and training center by developing and sustaining the infrastructure and human resources and by creating a patient friendly environment where patient care needs will be of highest priority.
